    Energy Business Dialogue Djibouti: 28-29 May 2013

    There is a clear need in Djibouti to improve the legal environment for renewable energy and rural electrification. In order to facilitate non-state stakeholder participation as an input to the planned national Strategy and Action Plan for the electricity sector, the Djiboutian Ministry of Energy and Water and EUEI PDF are jointly organising a dialogue forum aiming at strong involvement of the national private sector, academia and civil society.

    RECP Side Event on Africa-EU Private Sector Cooperation, 29 May 2013

    The EUEI PDF is organising an RECP side event to reflect on the types of support interventions necessary to foster an active exchange and linking of African and European private sectors actors and to highlight some positive examples of cooperation. The event will take place in the margins of the Vienna Energy Forum on 29 May 2013, 11.30-13.00 at the Trabantenstube.

    The Gambia - Development of an Electricity Strategy and Renewable Energy Law

    The EUEI PDF supported the Ministry of Energy (MoE) of the Gambia in the development of an Electricity Strategy and Action Plan focusing on the promotion of access to electricity and renewable energies and the strengthening of the legal and regulatory framework for renewable energies. The Final Report of the respective study, the Draft Renewable Energy Law as well as the Electricity Strategy and Action Plan are now available online.

    SADC/RERA - Regulation for mini-grids

    The SADC region faces major challenges in achieving improved access to modern energy services, and an extension of the existing grid might not suffice to increase the household electrification rate in the region.
    EUEI PDF is therefore working with the Regional Electricity Regulators Association of Southern Africa (RERA) to develop supportive framework conditions for mini-grids employing renewable and hybrid generation in Southern Africa.

EU Energy Initiative Partnership Dialogue Facility

The Partnership Dialogue Facility (EUEI PDF) is an instrument developed and funded by a number of EU member states and the European Commission in the context of the EU Energy Initiative (EUEI). Currently the EUEI PDF is financed by Austria, the European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

The overall objective of the EUEI PDF is to support our partner countries and regions across Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Pacific in developing policies and strategies for the promotion of access to energy. These are based on dialogue within and between partner countries, their regional organisations, EU member states and the European Commission. Furthermore, EUEI PDF supports the strategic energy dialogue of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) as a secretariat. Our two-fold mission is reflected in our service lines:

Energy Policy and Strategy Development

EUEI PDF provides support in developing successful energy policies and strategies by conducting country and regional studies with national governments and regional organisations active in the energy sector; thematic studies on energy issues; and dialogue and networking activities to foster the exchange of knowledge.

Support to the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP)

EUEI PDF acts as the secretariat of the AEEP, a long-term framework for strategic dialogue between Africa and the EU aimed at sharing knowledge, setting political priorities and developing joint programmes on key energy issues.
