    Low Cost Grid Electrification Technologies

    The EUEI PDF in collaboration with the Africa Electrification Initiative has published the Handbook for Low Cost Grid Technologies, aimed to support practitioners at power utilities and rural energy agencies in developing cost-effective electrification approaches adapted to loading conditions in rural areas. It features technologies suitable for providing grid-based electricity supply to low-load rural areas as well as network-planning guidelines successfully tested in many countries.

    The AEEP, in cooperation with DG DEVCO, is organizing a side-event at the Vienna Energy Forum 2015 entitled “Energy Efficiency, an essential driver for urban development in Africa”, taking place on June 19th, 2015 at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria. The event will offer the opportunity to present and discuss viable and scalable energy efficiency policies that can and ensure a more sustained provision of energy and contribute to sustainable development in Africa.

  • Building Energy Access Markets

    A Value Chain Analysis

    EUEI PDF and Practical Action have developed a new framework focused on analysing decentralised energy market systems of electricity mini-grids, solar PV lanterns and home systems as well as biomass and LPG stoves. It breaks down each energy market system to be mapped into three main levels: its energy market chain, its inputs as well as its enabling environment factors. This approach enables identifying specific barriers and defining targeted interventions for unlocking market uptake.

    Two key meetings took place at an important time. Global leaders will assemble in Paris in November 2015 for the Conference of Parties (COP21) hence an occasion to show continued increase to leveraging of public and private investment, deployment of energy infrastructure and climate change mitigation as fundamental pillars for energy development cooperation and policy dialogue.

EU Energy Initiative Partnership Dialogue Facility

EU Energy Initiative Partnership Dialogue Facility

The EUEI PDF is a flexible instrument of the EU Energy Initiative (EUEI) supporting the creation of an enabling environment for investments in sustainable energy markets across Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Pacific through:

  • Policy, regulation and strategy development;
  • institutional building and strengthening;
  • private sector cooperation;
  • capacity development and
  • knowledge sharing.

Furthermore, the EUEI PDF supports the strategic energy dialogue of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) as a secretariat and the implementation of the Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP).

Activity Lines

EUEI PDF and Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) projects involve activities in the fields of energy policy and strategy development; capacity building and private sector cooperation at a national and regional level. EUEI PDF thematic studies and dialogue events foster knowledge sharing and information exchange in the energy sector.

EUEI PDF acts as the secretariat of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), a long-term framework for strategic dialogue and joint action. EUEI PDF provides the AEEP with services such as organizing regular meetings, drafting Partnership documents, and monitoring of the AEEP 2020 Political targets.
