The First Stakeholder Forum of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) took place from 9-10 May 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa. The aim of the Forum was to achieve progress on the AEEP 2020 targets in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency, energy access, and energy security, with a focus on renewable energy. The Forum brought together over 250 representatives from government, civil society, research and the private sector, including financial institutions, to explore, among other issues, how to enhance synergies among different stakeholder groups and address barriers to increased investment and development assistance in the energy sector. The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) constitutes one of eight partnerships under the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES), a long-term framework for cooperation between the two continents, established in 2007 at the Lisbon Africa-EU Summit.
EUEI PDF provides the AEEP with services such as organizing regular meetings, draftig Partnership documents, and monitoring of the AEEP 2020 Political targets.In providing these services, we coordinate closely with the AEEP Co-Chairs (African Union Commission, Mauritius, Austria and Germany) and the European Commission. EUEI PDF supports the development and implementation of the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) that was launched in 2010 by African and European leaders at the First High-Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) in order to accelerate the use of the vast potential for renewable energy in Africa, meet future energy needs and increase access to modern and sustainable energy services on the continent.
