Support for the Africa-EU Energy Partnership
The PDF will cooperate closely with the EC and the EU Member States as well as African organisations in the further development and implementation of the AEEP on the basis of agreed (annual) priorities. This will mainly comprise services to support implementation of he AEEP in close collaboration with the European Commission, the EU Member States, the African Union Commission, and other relevant African pan-African, regional and national stakeholders on energy sector. Proposed activities for 2009-10 include:
- Provide assistance to the Joint Experts Group in the Development of a Road Map for the Partnership. Drafting, conducting background studies in close cooperation with the European Commission, the African Union Commission and the technical subworking groups of the Joint Experts Group which are expected to provide key inputs during the elaboration of the Road Map,
- Providing support to the Joint Experts Group's meetings. This will include the preparation of background papers, specific thematic studies and assistance with the organisation of specific dialogue events and meetings,
- Providing assistance to the AU Commission and the European Commission in the preparation of the proposed bi-annual High-level meetings, including preparation of background papers, studies and analysis, support for development of the agenda and meeting arrangements, reporting and follow-up, information and communication activities including website development, brochures etc.
- Preparation and follow-up of the proposed Renewable Energy Cooperation programme, which may include analysis of scope and content, actors, resources, financing options, organisational models, role of utilities, potential for regional cooperation, networking, twinning, capacity assessment, capacity building and support for RTD cooperation, elaboration of a road map for launching and implementing the programme, commissioning background papers, in cooperation with the associated working group.
