Summary

On September 23rd 2014 the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) joint co-chairs meeting took place in Brussels, Belgium. The event, which hosted at the European Commission DG DEVCO, had the purpose of discussing the progress and agreeing on a future strategy for the AEEP. Participants included: the Africa Union Commission Infrastructure and Energy delegation under Mr. Aboubakari Baba Moussa; members of the EU Directorate for Development and Cooperation led by Mr. Robert Ridolfi and Mr. Paolo Ciccarelli; representatives of Italy and Germany as European co-chairs of the Partnership, Mr. Nico Longo and Mr. Lucius Mayer-Tasch respectively; representatives delegation of the EU to the AU and of the AU delegation to the EU; and the AEEP secretariat. Based on the fruitful deliberations, the discussion paper “The Future of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership” is now being adjusted and finalized, guiding modalities for involvement of key actors and the definition of future governance structures and strategic activities.  

Following the official AEEP co-chair meeting, members of the AUC met with the EUEI PDF team in charge of implementing the Africa EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) on September 24th at the GIZ Representation in Brussels to exchange the current status of activities and outline opportunities for closer cooperation between the AUC and RECP. The Italian representative Mr. Nico Longo and the AU delegation to the EU representative Mr. Francis Bokilo also participated as observers.
