AEEP - Energy Business Dialogue Djibouti

28 May, 2013 to 29 May, 2013

East Africa

Djibouti is endowed with a high renewable energy potential, which has led the country to develop stringent targets to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2035.  To this effect, the Ministry of Energy in charge of Natural Resources (MERN) of Djibouti, with support from EUEI PDF has embarked in developing a National Strategy and Action Plan for the electricity sector. Non-state stakeholder participation will help create an enabling environment for their development.

Recognizing the role various stakeholders can play in shaping up energy strategies, the MERN hosted the Energy Business Dialogue Forum under the auspices of the Africa EU Energy Partnership (AEEP). On 29-30 May 2013, more than 100 participants from the private sector, civil society, research institutions, financial institutions, and the public sector gathered in Djibouti to identify key challenges of the Djiboutian energy sector and to formulate a common way forward .

Opened by the Minister of Energy Djibouti, the EU Ambassador to Djibouti and the Director General of the Djiboutian Energy Utility, the Energy Business Dialogue Djibouti featured presentations from national and international experts, panel discussions and parallel workshops including all stakeholder groups. The outcomes of the dialogue event will feed substantially into the national electricity strategy being prepared as well as the AEEP and SE4ALL initiatives through the momentum created by the dialogue event.

The Energy Business Dialogue Djibouti was jointly organised by MERN and EUEI PDF in close collaboration with EU delegation to Djibouti.
