Summary

In the framework of the Energy Access work stream, the AEEP and the RECP brought together local, regional, and international energy sector stakeholders during three days in Zambia to agree a roadmap for catalysing action towards a sustainable energy future for the Southern African Region.

The Forum opened with an event focused on "Business Opportunities for Decentralised Renewables in Southern Africa” organised by The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) with the support of the RECP. The aim was to inform investors/financiers, project developers, government agencies and large electricity off-takers about the Zambian energy market and provide a platform to develop business opportunities for decentralised renewables in the region.

The second day of the Forum concentrated on Zambia’s SE4All Action Agenda and Investment Prospectus and on identifying specific opportunities for strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships. The event focused on the Zambian national context, but brought in expertise and innovative experiences from across the Southern African Region. The aim was to share knowledge, provide an opportunity for non-public sector stakeholder feedback in to the Action Agenda as well as catalyse new partnerships for action in priority areas.

On the third day, participants were able to join in a field visit to raise awareness on the challenges of rural off-grid energy provision and get knowledge on promising solutions to overcome them.
