To support the accelerating investments in renewable energy in Africa, there is a growing need for renewable energy experts and skilled professionals. To help meet this growing demand, the RECP promotes university education and vocational training, as well as research cooperation for renewable energy. It thus contributes to the development of a skilled workforce, an increased level of innovation in the field, youth employment and local added value in renewable energy market development.
The RECP supports African universities in training future energy engineers, entrepreneurs, as well as policy experts. Through market needs assessments, development of curricula and course material and certification standards, the RECP also supports partner institutions in training skilled renewable energy technicians. In doing so, the programme promotes industry cooperation as well as gender equality.
Promoting the role of Academia in Africa as a hub for knowledge transfer and innovation is an additional aim of the RECP. The programme thus facilitates scientific cooperation between African and European universities as well as the transfer of knowledge to industry, ensuring that academic research meets real market demands. Activities in this area include scientific conferences, training workshops, and the promotion of young renewable energy scientists and entrepreneurs.
