The Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) and the Finnish University Partnership for International Development (UniPID) organised the third RECP & UniPID Science & Business Slam on the occasion of the African Network for Solar Energy (ANSOLE) Days 2017 from 5 to 8 May 2017 in Hammamet, Tunisia. Six young and upcoming African and European professionals were chosen from more than 100 applicants to participate at the conference, and invited to pitch their work on solar energy applications to a slam committee and expert audience.

  • Taqiyeddine Boukelia (Algeria), University of Constantine 1: Potential Assessment of a Parabolic through Solar Thermal Power Plant for Large Scale Power Generation
  • Hashim Mutanje (Uganda), People and Energy: “Solar Pipo”, a Ugandan Platform and Marketplace, Which Uses mobile Payment Technologies to Access Solar Energy
  • Frode Alf Otto Öckerman (Sweden/Tanzania), Water Providers: Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) Solar Water Pumping Project
  • Sunday Olusheyi Falaye (Nigeria), Econergco West Africa Limited: Solar-Powered Smart Microgrid for Concentrated Areas and Public Lighting System
  • James Turing (United Kingdom), Turing Trust: The “The SolarBerry”, a Self-Financing, Community-Owned, Off-Grid Computer Lab Powered by Solar Energy With Energy-Efficient Raspberry Pi Computers

The six participating slammers left their audience enthusiastic and were able to connect to international renewable energy experts, with tangible new projects and potential African-European and African-African cooperation on the horizon.
