Summary

Following a request from the Ministry of Environment of the Dominican Republic, EUEI PDF in cooperation with the Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America (EEP) and GTZ organised a regional workshop on the use of plant oil / biodiesel as a source of energy in Latin America and the Caribbean. The workshop aimed at exchanging best practices in the production and use of plant oil / biodiesel. In addition, policies and strategies as well as opportunities for regional cooperation on biofuels promotion were discussed. The workshop, which was held in fall 2007 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, brought together more than 40 experts in the field of biodiesel/ plant oil from the ministries, private sector, NGO and international organisations. Concrete recommendations on issues like policy and strategy development and economic, social and environmental standards were developed and discussed.
