Summary

The First All Africa Energy Week (AAWE) took place in November 2010. The theme was: “Energy Infrastructure and Services in the Context of Climate Challenges”.

The overall objectives of the AAEW were:

  • to achieve more efficient, coherent and coordinated actions towards increasing energy access and developing the energy sector in Africa and
  • to accelerate progress through dialogue and partnerships in scaling up investments in the African energy sector.

EUEI PDF contributed to the conference with a comprehensive report on the alignment of the Forum for Energy Ministers of Africa (FEMA) within the African Union Commission (AUC) Institutional Architecture. The Maputo Declaration decided to establish, under the auspices of the African Union Commission, the Conference of African Ministers in charge of Energy (CEMA) as a central continental coordination organ for energy policies (para. 26).
