Summary

Following a request from the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC), the EUEI PDF decided to support the Caribbean Wind Energy Initiative in close cooperation with the Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Programme (CREDP). The initiative aimed at promoting wind power development in the region by providing a framework for dialogue between governments, electric utilities and the wind industry. This contributed to improvements to the existing legal and regulatory frameworks for renewable energies in a number of Caribbean countries. Furthermore, the initiative demonstrated the existence of a sufficient demand for wind turbines that are adapted to the natural conditions of the region.
