Energy Policy Support to the Democratic Republic of Congo
The new government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has had no current energy policy document, and the nation's electric power system is fragmented and in poor repair after years of neglect. PDF commissioned consultants Mercados Electricty Markets International of Madrid to undertake a study at the request of the Cellule d'Appui Technique de l'Energie (CATE) within the Ministry of Energy of the DRC to develop a new energy policy (lettre de politique), an electricty legal code (Code d'Électricité), and a rural electrification strategy. A scoping study was earlier undertaken to draw up the terms of reference with the government. Mercados has already worked in DRC on energy issues and the consultants have now completed work on the policy documents with the government.
