Development of a Strategy for the Energy Use of Plant Oil in Rural Areas in the Dominican Republic and Haiti

PDF supported the development of a regional strategy to promote the use of plant oil (jatropha and ricinus) as an energy source for rural communities in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Based on recent experience, local stakeholders and representatives of different ministries of both countries discussed ways of promoting the production of biofuels on degraded land in the border area of the Dominican Republic and Haiti and its use as a source of energy for lighting, cooking and possibly electricity generation. At the workshop an action plan was developed and a binational jatropha network was founded.
